Database conversions, database migration
In some cases it may be necessary to migrate the Untis data set from one particular type of database to another database, e.g. MS Access to MySQL or from MySQL for Windows to MySQL for Linux.
The following migration paths are possible:
In the following we describe how to convert MS Access to MySQL. The other conversions are performed similarly.
1.First download the latest version of Untis from www.grupet.at , install it and log into the data set. Then log out and go to the 'File' tab. Click on 'Auxiliary functions' and go to 'Repair database'. This ensures that the data structure of your database is up-to-date. Then rename the ODBC connection to "Untis0".
2.Next, create a new ODBC data source called 'Untis' pointing to an empty database (i.e. one without any tables created) of the type to which you wish to migrate your data. If the ODBC application does not list any driver you must first download it from an appropriate website (e.g. www.mysql.com ).
3.Now launch Untis and select "File | Login". Processing will start after you confirm the prompt asking whether the conversion to MySQL should be performed. This may take several minutes depending on the size of the database.
If the transfer is aborted while it is running, any tables must be deleted from the database and the process needs to be started from the beginning.
